Melissa grew up in a small, one stop light town on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and attended James Madison University with a major in Psychology and minor in Special Education earning my teaching certificate. She taught special education in a self-contained classroom for 3 years, worked in administration for an alternative school for 2 years and earned my Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from VCU in 2009. Melissa currently works full time in a geriatric short term rehab setting and is getting her feet “rewet” working PRN as a home based children’s therapist.
Melissa’s third job is being a Mom to a fun and feisty toddler-aged daughter. “If she turns out anything like me I’ll have my hands full!” says Melissa. Melissa has a mother with Multiple Sclerosis and her OT knowledge allows her to provide insight and care for her as well. She is a homebody but her husband pushes her to travel from time to time to the Caribbean or Las Vegas. If Melissa had more free time she would be baking, napping, or reading.
